China Urges Advancement of US-Iran Talks to Restore Middle East Peace

In a significant diplomatic push for regional stability, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for the acceleration of negotiations between the United States and Iran. Speaking on Tuesday, Wang emphasized the critical need for dialogue to resolve ongoing tensions and safeguard the Middle East.

The call came after Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, presided over a high-level open debate at the UN Security Council. The session focused on upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system.

Wang highlighted that China has been actively working to resolve the current conflict by maintaining consistent communication and coordination with the primary parties involved, as well as key regional and international partners. He underscored a framework for peace based on mutual respect, stating that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all regional countries must be respected.

Beyond diplomatic ties, the Foreign Minister stressed the necessity of protecting civilian and non-military targets, safeguarding energy infrastructure and critical passages, and ensuring the implementation of the nuclear non-proliferation regime.

According to Wang, the crux of the situation lies in the direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran. While acknowledging that longstanding disputes cannot be resolved overnight, he noted that every incremental step forward brings renewed hope for peace. He specifically expressed support for the mediation efforts led by Pakistan and other nations, alongside the independent efforts of the US and Iran.

Emphasizing the human cost of the conflict, Wang warned that a swifter resolution is essential to minimize civilian casualties. He concluded by urging the concerned parties to remain committed to a ceasefire and to meet each other halfway to ensure a lasting peace returns to the region as early as possible.
