China and Pakistan Reaffirm Ironclad Ties, Paving Way for a Multipolar World

A Legacy of Friendship and Future Aspirations

In a powerful display of strategic solidarity, China and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to an "unbreakable" friendship. This commitment was highlighted during the recent official visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Beijing, where he met with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People.

The meeting comes at a poignant moment, following the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations on May 21, 1951. President Xi noted that over the past seven and a half decades, the two countries have forged a bond based on mutual understanding, trust, and unwavering support.

Youth as the Bridge of Cooperation

The human dimension of this partnership was underscored by a heartfelt letter from Pakistani students at China's Tianjin University. The students pledged to serve as builders of cooperation and guardians of friendship, a gesture that President Xi described as truly heartening, noting that the cause of China-Pakistan friendship has dedicated young successors.

Economic Synergy and CPEC 2.0

The economic partnership remains a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship. China has stood as Pakistan's largest trading partner for 11 consecutive years, serving as the primary source of imports and the largest source of foreign direct investment according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

A central piece of this cooperation is the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Now upgraded to version 2.0, CPEC focuses on five critical pillars: growth, livelihood enhancement, innovation, green development, and openness. To date, the corridor has injected over $25.9 billion into Pakistan's economy and created 260,000 jobs.

Looking Ahead: Innovation and Stability

Looking to the future, both leaders emphasized the need to accelerate the development of a "China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era." President Xi urged the deepening of all-round cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, agriculture, industry, and talent cultivation to better benefit both peoples and contribute to regional peace.

Prime Minister Sharif echoed these sentiments, describing the relationship as "growing ever stronger and next to none," and vowed to continue advancing BRI cooperation to ensure the fruits of this partnership continue to grow.
