China Advocates for Global Synergy in AI and Digital Education

In a move to reshape the future of global learning, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Digital Education Conference on Monday, May 11. The event gathered educators, policymakers, and tech innovators to discuss the intersection of technology and pedagogy.

During his address, Vice President Han highlighted that the integrated development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies presents a dual reality: a significant opportunity for the advancement of global education and a common challenge that all nations must navigate together.

Emphasizing a collaborative spirit, Han stated that China is ready to partner with all parties to explore development visions and governance approaches for digital education. This includes improving systems of rules and standards to jointly drive transformation and innovation across the sector.

A key pillar of Han's proposal is a people-centered approach. He advocated for the cultivation of a new generation of talent—individuals who possess lifelong learning abilities, can effectively harness AI, and are equipped to lead future developments in a rapidly evolving digital economy.

To ensure that the benefits of technology are not limited to a few, the Vice President proposed the joint construction and sharing of digital infrastructure. By broadening access, he noted that the dividends of digital technology can benefit a wider and more diverse global population.

Addressing the ethical implications of automation, Han stressed the necessity of upholding the principle of "using AI for good." He called for a safe and orderly development path, suggesting the establishment of robust risk monitoring and evaluation systems to prevent the misuse of AI in educational settings.

The Vice President concluded by emphasizing the importance of deepening international exchanges and cooperation, urging the global community to work hand-in-hand to ensure the healthy and sustainable development of digital education.
