Scaling New Heights: Xizang’s Clean Energy Leap on the Roof of the World

High on the windswept plains of Amdo County, where the air is thin and the sunlight intense, a technological marvel is taking shape. At an elevation of over 4,650 meters above sea level, the Tushuo 100-megawatt concentrated solar power (CSP) plant is nearing a critical milestone. With all 15,927 heliostats now delivered, this project stands as the world's highest-altitude installation of its kind, signaling a bold shift in the energy paradigm on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.

The innovation extends beyond a single site. In nearby Damxung County, construction is actively progressing on a 50 MW trough-based CSP plant. To maximize efficiency, this facility is designed to operate in tandem with a massive 400 MW photovoltaic (PV) array, creating a powerful hybrid system capable of capturing solar energy through multiple cutting-edge technologies.

However, generating power in such remote, high-altitude regions is only half the challenge. To ensure this green electricity reaches the people who need it most, ultra-high-voltage (UHV) transmission lines are being constructed. These advanced conduits will transport clean energy thousands of kilometers south to more densely populated regions of the Chinese mainland.

By transforming extreme altitude from a logistical hurdle into a laboratory for innovation, Xizang is positioning itself as a cornerstone of the region's sustainable future. These projects are not just about power generation; they represent a strategic commitment to environmental stewardship and technological leadership in the global transition to clean energy.
