China’s Top Legislator Urges US to View China’s Development Rationally

In a significant diplomatic engagement in Beijing, Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), has called on the United States to adopt an objective and rational perspective regarding China and its ongoing development.

During a meeting with a visiting delegation of US senators, led by Steve Daines, Zhao emphasized that a stable, sound, and sustainable relationship between the two nations is not only in the common interest of their respective peoples but also aligns with the general expectations of the global community.

Reflecting on recent progress, Zhao noted that China-US relations have maintained overall stability since last year, guided by the strategic direction of the two heads of state. He expressed China's readiness to work collaboratively with the US to implement common understandings, strengthen communication, and expand practical cooperation while effectively managing differences.

Addressing critical points of contention, Zhao underscored that the Taiwan question remains at the very core of China's core interests and represents the most pivotal issue in the bilateral relationship. He urged the US to strictly adhere to the one-China principle and to handle Taiwan-related issues with prudence and appropriateness.

Looking forward to enhanced legislative ties, the NPC Chairman expressed a strong willingness to foster greater exchange and mutual visits between the National People's Congress and the US Congress. Zhao highlighted that the current visit by the senators serves as a vital step in enhancing engagement, and he extended a warm welcome to more US lawmakers to visit the country to promote mutual understanding.
