China Condemns Taiwan Region Leader’s Eswatini Trip as “Scandalous Stunt”

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has issued a sharp rebuke following a recent trip to Eswatini by the leader of the Taiwan region, Lai Ching-te. During a regular news briefing on Wednesday, spokesperson Lin Jian characterized the visit as nothing more than a "scandalous stunt," arguing that such actions underscore the "shady business" of "Taiwan independence" separatism, which remains unacceptable to the international community.

According to Lin, the trip was marked by deceptive practices. He alleged that the Taiwan region leader "sneaked" into Eswatini by concealing passenger information from the host country. Further complications reportedly arose during the return journey; Lin stated that after requests to use certain airspace were rejected by relevant countries, the leader again slipped onto the plane and forced his way through their skies.

The spokesperson described these actions as "extremely dangerous and outrageous," suggesting a profound lack of respect for the sovereignty and airspace of other nations, as well as a disregard for global opinion.

Lin also addressed the political landscape within Eswatini, claiming that some local politicians on the Taiwan region's payroll have wrongly provided space for "Taiwan independence" activities. He strongly condemned these actions, urging political figures in the region's diplomatic allies to recognize the "arc of history" and move toward strengthening ties with China rather than continuing to serve as "political props."

Concluding the briefing, the spokesperson reaffirmed the fundamental stance that there is only one China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. He emphasized that the one-China principle remains an unshakable international consensus, warning that the pursuit of "Taiwan independence" is a "dead end" and that any further separatist agendas will only lead to further isolation.
