Huawei Unveils Pura 90 Series, Pioneering Foldable Tech in 2026

Huawei launched its flagship Pura 90 smartphone series and the groundbreaking Pura X Max foldable device at an event in Guangzhou on April 20, 2026, signaling renewed innovation in China's competitive tech sector. The Pura 90 lineup features three models: the standard Pura 90, Pro, and Pro Max, all running the latest HarmonyOS 6.1 with enhanced privacy and interaction features.

The Pro Max model boasts a 200-megapixel telephoto sensor and a long-range voice capture system effective up to 10 meters. Both Pro variants utilize Huawei's Kirin 9030S chip, delivering 200% improved AI image processing and 30% better stabilization compared to previous generations.

Pricing starts at 4,699 yuan ($689) for the base model, maintaining parity with 2025's Pura 80 series despite rising component costs. Executive Yu Chengdong cautioned about potential future price adjustments during the launch event.

The horizontally designed Pura X Max foldable marks Huawei's latest challenge to conventional smartphone form factors. This release comes as HarmonyOS 6 adoption surpasses 55 million devices globally, with projections suggesting it could capture 14.6% of the mobile OS market by year-end.
