This week, media leaders from across Africa and China gathered in Banjul, The Gambia, for the 17th General Assembly of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), coinciding with the organization's 20th anniversary. China Media Group (CMG), an international AUB member, co-hosted the landmark 'Our African Partners 2026' event during the assembly, drawing nearly 100 executives from over 50 member states.
The forum highlighted deepening media collaboration between the Chinese mainland and African nations. CMG representatives emphasized joint initiatives to enhance content sharing and technical cooperation ahead of 2026, while AUB leaders praised China's role in supporting Africa's media development since joining the union in 2012.
This year's anniversary celebrations underscored the AUB's evolution into a 47-member pan-African broadcasting network. Participants adopted resolutions to expand digital infrastructure partnerships, with CMG announcing new training programs for African journalists through its Nairobi bureau.
