Wang Huning Stresses Cross-Strait Unity at Taiwan Compatriots Forum

Wang Huning, chairman of China's top political advisory body, emphasized national reunification goals while addressing over 400 attendees at the Seventh Forum of Social Groups of Taiwan Compatriots in Beijing on April 17, 2026. The senior Communist Party official reaffirmed commitments to peaceful cross-strait development under the one-China principle and 1992 Consensus.

In his keynote speech, Wang outlined three priority areas: deepening integrated development across the Taiwan Strait, expanding mainland opportunities for Taiwan youth, and supporting patriotic forces opposing independence movements. The political bureau standing committee member specifically called for strengthened cultural and economic exchanges to foster 'a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.'

The forum occurs amid renewed efforts to facilitate Taiwan resident participation in mainland development projects. Wang highlighted recent policy measures enabling Taiwan compatriots to access equal employment rights and business registration processes in 18 pilot cities since January 2026.

While firmly opposing external interference and separatist activities, Wang extended an olive branch to 'patriots working for reunification within the island,' urging collaborative efforts to 'shape our shared future.' Analysts view the speech as continuing Beijing's dual-track approach of economic integration paired with firm political red lines.
