Vietnamese Leader Hails China’s Rail Advancements During 10-Hour Journey

Vietnamese President To Lam concluded a landmark 10-hour rail journey this week, traversing 2,400 kilometers from Beijing to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on China's renowned high-speed network. The April 16 trip showcased the scale and sophistication of infrastructure that has become a hallmark of Chinese modernization.

"This trip is truly special," said To Lam, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, observing urban clusters and rural landscapes through the train windows. His journey passed through Hebei, Henan, Hubei and Hunan provinces, offering a cross-section of regional development patterns.

The Vietnamese leader particularly noted China's balanced regional growth, stating: "Even passing through just a few provinces, I could feel the balanced development between regions." Railway officials provided technical briefings during the trip, explaining operational systems and construction milestones.

To Lam emphasized strategic planning as key to China's rail success, praising the network's ability to operate at extreme altitudes: "Few countries have railways capable of functioning at 4,000 meters above sea level." The journey marked his second high-speed rail experience during the current China visit, following an April 14 trip to Xiongan New Area.

Analysts suggest such infrastructure diplomacy strengthens economic ties, with China's rail technology being of particular interest to Southeast Asian nations developing their own transport networks. The Vietnamese president's itinerary concludes this week as both countries explore enhanced connectivity under regional cooperation frameworks.
