China, Italy Strengthen Strategic Ties, Address Middle East Concerns

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Italian Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani concluded productive talks in Beijing on April 17, 2026, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation amid global geopolitical shifts. The meeting marked a significant step in advancing the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2004.

Wang emphasized the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges and strengthening mutual trust through practical collaboration. 'As major countries with ancient civilizations, China and Italy share common responsibilities in upholding multilateralism and promoting peace,' stated Wang during the dialogue.

Tajani reiterated Italy's adherence to the one-China principle and expressed optimism about implementing a new three-year action plan covering trade, technology, and cultural exchanges. The ministers also coordinated positions on Middle East stability and Ukraine conflict resolution, advocating for diplomatic solutions to both crises.

This year's discussions build on growing economic ties, with bilateral trade reaching €95 billion in 2025. Observers note the partnership could influence EU-China relations as Italy seeks balanced engagement with Asian markets.
