Kuwait Expels Iranian Diplomats After Missile and Drone Attacks

Kuwait has taken decisive diplomatic action against Iran following a series of missile and drone attacks that targeted civilian and strategic infrastructure within the country. On Wednesday, Kuwaiti authorities summoned Iran's chargé d'affaires, Hamid Yaqoubi Far, to deliver an official protest note.

Diplomatic Downgrade and Expulsions

In a move reflecting the severity of the situation, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry declared two members of the Iranian diplomatic mission persona non grata, ordering them to leave the country within 24 hours. Additionally, Kuwait has announced a reduction in the overall size of Iran's diplomatic mission in the country.

Defending Sovereignty

Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Sulaiman Al-Mashaan emphasized that the decision was a direct response to "continued and blatant" attacks involving ballistic missiles and drones. Al-Mashaan asserted that these actions violate Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, including relevant United Nations resolutions.

The Kuwaiti government also firmly rejected claims made by Iran that the United States had launched strikes from Kuwaiti soil. Al-Mashaan described these allegations as "baseless," stating that such claims cannot justify attacks on Kuwaiti territory or civilian facilities.

Human and Infrastructure Toll

The diplomatic escalation follows reports of fresh Iranian attacks targeting strategic sites, including the Kuwait International Airport. The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry confirmed that the strikes resulted in one fatality and left dozens of civilians injured, while causing significant damage to key infrastructure and diplomatic premises.

Kuwait continues to reiterate its position that its territory and airspace must not be used for hostile acts against any state, underscoring its commitment to regional stability and international law.
