Iran Accuses US of Violating Ceasefire Following New Military Strikes

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have escalated once again as Iran announced on Tuesday that the United States has violated a ceasefire agreement. The accusations follow a series of military actions in southern Iran, threatening a fragile peace that had been in place since early April.

Military Clashes in Hormozgan

The Iranian foreign ministry reported that US strikes took place in the southern Hormozgan province, where local media reported hearing explosions early Tuesday morning. Tehran described these actions as a "gross violation" of the ceasefire that has lasted nearly seven weeks.

In response, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that its air defense forces successfully shot down an MQ-9 Reaper drone within Iranian airspace. The IRGC further claimed to have detected and tracked an RQ-4 Global Hawk surveillance aircraft and an F-35 fighter jet, asserting that the aircraft were forced to retreat after being fired upon.

The US Position

Conversely, US Central Command maintained that the operations were defensive in nature. According to a statement released on Monday, the strikes were specifically designed to "protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces."

As the diplomatic situation remains fluid, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that while efforts to halt the conflict are ongoing, negotiating a definitive deal to end the hostilities could still "take a few days."

Diplomatic Efforts and Future Outlook

The current instability comes at a critical time, as both nations have reportedly been exchanging proposed peace plans over the past few weeks. These negotiations have been facilitated through the mediation of Pakistan, as both sides seek conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.

The IRGC has warned that it reserves the "legitimate and definitive" right to respond to any further violations by the US army, leaving the region in a state of high alert as the world watches for a diplomatic breakthrough.
