In a decisive move to curb the spread of a dangerous virus, the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has announced the temporary suspension of all passenger flights to and from Bunia.
Bunia, the capital of the northeastern Ituri Province, has emerged as the epicenter of the current Ebola outbreak. To prevent further transmission of the disease across regions, the Ministry of Transport confirmed that no passenger aircraft will be permitted to land at or take off from Bunia Airport until further notice.
While commercial travel is halted, the government is ensuring that critical aid continues to flow. The ministry stated that humanitarian, medical, and emergency flights may still be authorized, provided they receive official approval from both aviation and health authorities.
This measure highlights the urgency of the health crisis in the Ituri Province and the government's commitment to prioritizing public safety and containment strategies during this critical period.
