In a strong appeal for peace and stability in the Middle East, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has urged all parties to fully adhere to the Gaza ceasefire agreement and accelerate progress toward a "two-state solution."
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Fu Cong highlighted that while the ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025 brought a degree of improvement, the conflict is far from resolved. He pointed out that near-daily bombings and attacks by Israel since the deal's inception have led to more than 870 deaths, undermining the fragile truce.
A Call for Global Responsibility
Fu emphasized that the responsibility for maintaining the ceasefire does not lie with the local parties alone. He called upon international guarantors and influential global powers to take proactive and decisive steps to ensure the truce is preserved and fully implemented.
"China calls on all parties, especially Israel, to fully comply with the ceasefire agreement," Fu stated, stressing the urgent need for a permanent end to the hostilities.
Addressing the Humanitarian Crisis
The Chinese envoy painted a dire picture of the current humanitarian situation in Gaza. He noted persistent and critical shortages of basic necessities, including drinking water, fuel, and medical supplies, leaving a significant portion of the population without adequate shelter.
Fu reminded the council that Israel, as the occupying power, must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law. He urged the immediate lifting of restrictions on the entry of humanitarian supplies to allow life-saving medicines and shelter materials to reach those in need.
The Path Toward a Lasting Peace
Regarding the long-term resolution of the conflict, Fu Cong reaffirmed that the "two-state solution" remains the only viable path forward. He asserted that any future arrangements or new mechanisms must be based on the principle of "Palestinians governing Palestine" and must respect the sovereign wishes of the Palestinian people.
Concluding his remarks, the envoy urged the international community to reject any unilateral actions that could erode the foundations of the "two-state solution" and opposed any attempts to alter the territorial or demographic structure of Gaza.
