A Legacy of Resistance and Remembrance
In a powerful message released this Wednesday, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei lauded the nation's "epic and historically unique" resistance against the forces of the United States and Israel. Reflecting on the challenges faced during the 40-day war and the period following it, Khamenei described the struggle as a testament to the country's resilience against what he termed "terrorist" armies.
Honoring a Fallen Leader
The Supreme Leader's message coincided with a somber milestone: the second anniversary of the passing of late President Ebrahim Raisi. President Raisi, along with former Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the Supreme Leader's representative to East Azarbaijan, tragically perished in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran on May 19, 2024.
Khamenei remembered Raisi as a "responsible and popular figure" who was deeply committed to the promotion of justice, the empowerment of the youth, and the pursuit of active, interest-based diplomacy.
Addressing Internal Challenges
Looking toward the future, the Supreme Leader emphasized that the current global and domestic reality places a "heavier burden of responsibility" on Iranian officials. From the heads of the three branches of government to managers at all levels, there is a renewed call to prioritize the concerns of the people, particularly regarding economics and the improvement of daily livelihoods.
Maintaining Regional Stability
While focusing on internal governance and remembrance, Iran continues to assert its strategic presence in critical waterways. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Wednesday that 26 vessels—including oil tankers and container ships—successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, coordinated through the IRGC navy, highlighting the continued flow of commercial maritime traffic in the region.
