In a significant step toward prisoner repatriation, Russia and Ukraine exchanged 205 prisoners of war each this past Friday, according to official statements from Moscow and Kyiv.
The exchange comes as a tangible result of recent diplomatic efforts led by US President Donald Trump. Last week, President Trump announced that a much larger mutual swap involving 1,000 prisoners was planned to take place between the warring sides.
This latest development follows a three-day US-brokered ceasefire that was implemented to cover Russia's May 9 parade celebrating the defeat of the Nazis. The successful swap of 205 individuals from each side highlights the ongoing international attempts to facilitate prisoner releases amidst the continuing conflict.
