In a significant update regarding the leadership of the Islamic Republic, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Thursday that he recently met with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
The meeting, which according to the state-run IRIB news agency lasted nearly two and a half hours, was described by the President as having taken place in a "friendly atmosphere." While the exact date of the encounter was not disclosed, the announcement has drawn considerable attention as Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen in public since his appointment in early March.
Speaking in a video broadcast by state television, President Pezeshkian highlighted the nature of the interaction, stating, "What struck me most during this meeting was the vision and the humble and sincere approach of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution."
The Supreme Leader's absence from the public eye follows a period of intense conflict. Mojtaba Khamenei was reportedly wounded during the first day of a joint US-Israel attack against Iran, an operation that claimed the life of his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei. Since his appointment in March, the Supreme Leader has released only written statements to communicate his positions.
