On Friday, May 1, 2026, China's Ministry of Commerce voiced strong opposition to recent measures by the United States targeting the test and certification as well as telecommunications sectors. The ministry urged the US to immediately halt what it called "wrong practices."
The statement came in response to actions adopted by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Thursday, April 30. The new rules would disqualify testing and certification bodies from countries lacking mutual recognition agreements with the US and prohibit entities on a designated "covered list" from providing telecom services within the US.
A spokesperson for the Chinese ministry stated, "The FCC has abandoned the principle of technology neutrality, overstretched the concept of national security, and repeatedly imposed restrictive measures without factual basis, discriminating against enterprises and products from China and other countries."
The spokesperson emphasized that the move severely harms the interests of China and other trading partners. It was noted that such measures undermine the stability of China-US economic and trade relations and contradict the consensus reached by the two countries' leaders.
"If implemented, these measures will severely disrupt the international economic and trade order, destabilize global industrial and supply chains in telecommunications, electronics and related fields, impact global industrial cooperation and technological innovation, and also harm the interests of US industries and consumers, affecting the security of the US supply chain itself," the spokesperson added.
China called on the US to heed industry concerns, respect market rules, revoke the measures, and stop its course of action. The spokesperson concluded, "Should the US side insist on going its own way, China will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises."
