Kenya Concludes 18-Month Security Deployment in Haiti

Kenya formally ended its contribution to the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti on April 28, 2026, marking the conclusion of an 18-month deployment aimed at bolstering stability in the Caribbean nation. The final contingent of 150 Kenyan police officers departed from Port-au-Prince, bringing the mission to a close.

The drawdown was overseen by Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, who were present in the Haitian capital on April 27. Their visit underscored the commitment to an orderly withdrawal and served as a final engagement with the remaining personnel.

The MSS mission, which began in late 2024, represented a significant international effort to support Haiti's national police force. Kenya's participation highlighted its growing role in global peace and security initiatives. The conclusion of this mission invites reflection on the evolving landscape of international security cooperation and the contributions of nations from regions, including Africa and Asia, to such multilateral efforts.
