Putin Pledges Continued Support to Iran in St. Petersburg Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in St. Petersburg earlier today, April 27, 2026, reaffirming Moscow's strategic partnership with Tehran and pledging support during what he termed a "difficult period."

During the talks, President Putin expressed his hope for peace to prevail soon in the region. "For our part, we will do everything that serves your interests and the interests of all the peoples of the region to ensure that peace is achieved as quickly as possible," Putin stated, according to reports from Russian state media.

The Russian leader also acknowledged a recent message from Iran's supreme leader, instructing Foreign Minister Araghchi to convey his "most sincere thanks" and confirming Russia's intent to "continue our strategic relationship" with Iran.

In response, Foreign Minister Araghchi emphasized that bilateral relations would continue to strengthen and thanked Moscow for its ongoing support, as reported by Russia's RIA news agency. The meeting underscores the enduring diplomatic and strategic ties between the two nations at a pivotal time.

The discussions are being closely watched by global observers for their potential impact on regional stability and international diplomacy in West Asia.
