Serbia Eyes Xiaomi EV Expansion as Gateway to European Smart Mobility

A Strategic Partnership for the Future

In a move to position Serbia as a central hub for the next generation of transportation, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has expressed a strong interest in attracting Xiaomi's electric vehicle (EV) operations to his home country.

During a recent visit to the Chinese mainland, President Vucic toured Xiaomi's facilities and extended a high-profile invitation to the tech giant. Vucic stated that if the EV manufacturer decides to expand its footprint into Europe, "its first stop should be Serbia."

This ambition is backed by a strategic alignment of strengths. Jelena Grubor Stefanovic, director of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's representative office in China, highlighted that the synergy between the two nations offers a unique opportunity. While the Chinese mainland leads the world in EV innovation and smart manufacturing, Serbia provides a robust foundation of established industrial capacity and a wealth of engineering talent.

For Serbia, the goal extends far beyond the simple importation of electric cars. According to Stefanovic, the primary objective is for Serbia to integrate itself into the future European smart mobility supply chain. By hosting a pioneer like Xiaomi, Serbia aims to transform its industrial landscape, fostering local expertise in high-tech manufacturing and ensuring a pivotal role in the region's shift toward sustainable transportation.
