In a proactive move to safeguard public health, Ghana has activated enhanced screening measures for travelers arriving from regions identified as high-risk for Ebola. Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh announced the implementation of these protocols on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in an interconnected world.
The new health protocols have been deployed at the Accra International Airport and key land border crossings. The primary objective is to prevent the importation of infections and ensure that any potential cases are identified and managed immediately upon entry.
Minister Akandoh highlighted that disease threats do not recognize national boundaries, necessitating a robust and responsive border health strategy. According to the minister, all passengers arriving from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will undergo screening at the airport, alongside other travelers coming from high-risk areas.
Beyond the primary aviation hub, the Ghanaian government is extending these screening procedures to land entry points across the country to create a comprehensive safety net. This strategy ensures that regardless of the mode of transport, high-risk arrivals are monitored.
