China Urges Philippines to Ensure Official Remarks Support Bilateral Stability

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called upon the Philippines to exercise restraint regarding official remarks that may jeopardize the improvement of bilateral relations. This diplomatic appeal comes after the Philippine defense chief characterized China as a "threat" during discussions on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning noted that leadership within the Philippines has repeatedly expressed a willingness to properly manage differences and work toward easing tensions in bilateral relations. However, the spokesperson emphasized the need for a consistent approach across all levels of government.

"We hope the Philippines will match its words with actions, strictly restrain the conduct and remarks of its officials, and not allow a few individuals to repeatedly undermine efforts by both sides to maintain stable relations," Mao stated during a press conference.

The call for consistency underscores the importance of maintaining diplomatic stability in the region, urging that the rhetoric of individual officials should not obstruct the broader goal of fostering steady and constructive ties between the two nations.
