In a recent emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, China's Permanent Representative, Fu Cong, called for urgent restraint and calm following a drone incident that has heightened tensions in Eastern Europe.
The incident occurred last Friday in the southeastern Romanian city of Galati, where a Russian drone crashed onto the roof of a residential building. The crash resulted in injuries to two people, drawing immediate international attention to the risks of conflict spillover.
Speaking on Monday, Ambassador Fu Cong emphasized that the event is a direct external spillover of the ongoing Ukraine crisis. He warned that if the situation continues to deteriorate or spirals out of control, the world could face "serious and irreparable consequences."
Fu urged regional actors and the international community to prioritize dialogue and sincere communication to clarify the facts and resolve disputes. He stressed that provocative rhetoric must be avoided to prevent further inflaming an already volatile environment.
According to the Chinese representative, the only sustainable way to prevent such incidents is to achieve a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis as quickly as possible. China continues to advocate for a ceasefire and supports the resumption of talks to address the legitimate security concerns of all parties involved.
Reaffirming China's commitment to global peace, Fu stated that the country remains willing to work alongside the international community to play a constructive role in advancing a peaceful, political settlement to the crisis.
