In a call for global stability, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has urged all parties involved in a recent drone incident in Romania to exercise restraint and prioritize communication.
Speaking during an emergency open meeting of the UN Security Council this past Monday, June 1, Fu emphasized that dialogue is the only viable path to clarify the facts and resolve disputes, warning against any actions that could lead to further escalation.
The urgency of the meeting follows reports from Romania's Defense Ministry that a Russian drone crashed onto the roof of a residential building in the southeastern city of Galati last Friday, May 29. The incident resulted in injuries to two residents, sparking concerns over the expanding reach of regional conflicts.
Fu Cong described the incident as an "external spillover" of the ongoing Ukraine crisis. He warned the international community that if the situation continues to deteriorate and spirals out of control, the world could face serious and irreparable consequences.
To mitigate these risks, Fu stressed that regional countries and global powers must work together to de-escalate tensions. He advocated for sincere dialogue and cautioned against the use of provocative rhetoric that could further inflame an already volatile situation.
According to the representative, the only sustainable way to prevent such incidents is to achieve a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis as soon as possible. He reiterated that China consistently supports a ceasefire and promotes negotiation to address the legitimate security concerns of all relevant parties.
Closing his remarks, Fu affirmed China's commitment to playing a constructive role in advancing a peaceful resolution, expressing hope that parties will resume talks to secure an early peace agreement.
