Nvidia’s Jensen Huang Views Huawei’s Tau Scaling Law as Breakthrough, Not TSMC Threat

In a recent visit to Taipei, China's Taiwan region, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang shared his insights on the latest technological advancements in the semiconductor industry, specifically addressing Huawei's proposed "Tau (τ) Scaling Law."

Speaking to reporters on May 28, Huang acknowledged that Huawei's approach—which focuses on chip stacking to increase transistor counts without the need to shrink line widths—represents "a breakthrough for Huawei." He described the method as "a very good technology," recognizing the innovation behind the approach.

However, Huang maintained that the development does not jeopardize the market position of TSMC. He noted that the techniques Huawei is now employing are already well-established within the industry. "TSMC and Taiwan have had this technology for 10 years," Huang remarked, suggesting that the established infrastructure and experience of TSMC provide a significant lead.

For global investors and tech enthusiasts, Huang's comments provide a nuanced perspective on the competitive landscape of chip manufacturing.
