Xiamen Port Hits Record Pace with Over 1 Million Cross-Strait Passenger Trips

Xiamen Port in southeast China's Fujian Province has achieved a significant milestone in regional connectivity, with the number of cross-strait passenger trips exceeding 1 million as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026. According to official data, this represents a year-on-year increase of more than 20% and marks the earliest date on record for the port to reach the one-million mark.

A primary driver of this growth is the Xiamen-Kinmen "Mini Three Links" route. Data from the Gaoqi Border Inspection Station, under the Xiamen Border Inspection General Station, reveals that this direct ferry service handled more than 800,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips. This surge, an increase of nearly 25% compared to the previous year, underscores the route's role as a critical channel for personnel exchanges across the Taiwan Strait.

To accommodate the rising demand, the Xiamen-Kinmen route currently maintains a robust schedule, averaging 24 round-trip sailings per day. This high frequency of travel is fostering deeper connections between residents of the region.

The statistics also highlight a growing interest in cross-strait exploration. Since the beginning of 2026, nearly 60,000 passenger trips have been made by residents from Fujian Province and Shanghai Municipality to Kinmen. Simultaneously, there has been a notable rise in first-time visitors from Taiwan to the Chinese mainland, with over 30,000 passenger trips recorded—a substantial year-on-year increase of more than 60%.

These trends reflect a dynamic period of growth in cross-strait ties, as increased mobility facilitates stronger social and economic interactions between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region.
