The Chinese mainland has issued a stern rebuke of Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te, characterizing his recent separatist comments on social media as a reflection of a "weak and deceitful" nature. In a statement released on Wednesday, officials emphasized that such rhetoric only serves to expose bluster and hostility.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated in response to a media query that since assuming office, Lai has stubbornly maintained a separatist stance. According to the spokesperson, the Taiwan leader has become a disruptor of the status quo and represents the primary source of instability for peace and security within the Taiwan Strait.
The mainland's office further highlighted that Lai has been promoting the "Taiwan independence" separatist fallacy while simultaneously attempting to undermine cross-strait exchanges and cooperation. These actions, Zhu noted, have drawn firm opposition from both Taiwan compatriots and the broader international community.
Reaffirming the fundamental position of the government, Zhu stated that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an integral part of China. The spokesperson concluded that regardless of the actions or statements made by Lai, they will not hinder the unstoppable historical trend toward reunification.
