China and Russia’s Ever-Lasting Friendship Gains Strong Youth Support

As diplomatic ties between Beijing and Moscow continue to deepen, new data suggests that the foundation of this relationship is being strengthened by the next generation. According to Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, the ever-lasting friendship between China and Russia is enjoying increasingly robust popular support, particularly among the youth.

Speaking at a regular news briefing this Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Guo highlighted the results of a comprehensive survey conducted by the Chinese and Russian sides of the Council of Education under the China-Russia Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development. The study focused on youth friendship and cultural exchange among individuals aged between 18 and 35 in both countries.

The findings, recently unveiled at a launch event held by the Global Opinion Research Center at Renmin University of China, reveal a strikingly positive trend: over 80% of the surveyed youth view China-Russia relations as friendly. Guo described the survey as a "true barometer" of public opinion, noting that the results not only reflect the current height of bilateral relations but also a shared desire for expanded exchanges between young people.

This wave of popular support coincides with a significant diplomatic milestone. Russian President Vladimir Putin begins his state visit to China today, Tuesday, further cementing the strategic alignment between the two nations. Guo expressed full confidence that under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Putin, the bond between the two countries will continue to flourish.

The spokesperson emphasized that the youth of both nations are poised to join hands, injecting fresh vitality into the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era. By fostering these cultural and social bridges, both countries aim to ensure that their strategic cooperation is supported by a lasting legacy of mutual trust and understanding.
