In a significant move to bolster national resilience, the Chinese mainland has launched a new integrated emergency communication platform. This initiative is designed to ensure that vital connectivity remains uninterrupted during natural disasters and other large-scale emergencies, providing a critical lifeline when traditional networks fail.
The platform was officially introduced today, coinciding with World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. The launch was a collaborative effort led by the Emergency Communication Support Center under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in partnership with several major telecom operators.
At the heart of this system is its all-network compatibility. In the past, communication disruptions often left users stranded depending on their specific provider. Now, a single emergency base station can simultaneously serve users across all major carriers, including China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom. Residents in affected areas will not need to change their mobile devices or SIM cards; instead, their phones will automatically detect and connect to the dedicated "National Emergency Communication" network for calls, texts, and data services.
This capability is designed to serve a dual purpose: safeguarding critical emergency command operations and meeting the basic communication needs of residents in disaster-hit regions. By removing the barriers between different telecom providers, the system ensures a more coordinated and efficient response to crises.
The platform's versatility extends beyond standard mobile connectivity. It enables the unified management and dispatching of diverse emergency hardware, including drone-based, backpack, vehicle-mounted, and shipborne base stations. These mobile assets can be rapidly deployed and activated anywhere across the Chinese mainland, significantly increasing the speed and flexibility of emergency responses.
The launch aligns with this year's World Telecommunication and Information Society Day theme, "Digital Lifeline: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World," reflecting a broader commitment to leveraging technology for public safety and stability.
