In a significant step toward strengthening regional ties, the fourth China-Central Asia Human Rights Development Forum was recently convened in Uzbekistan. The gathering brought together a diverse group of experts, scholars, and government representatives from China and across Central Asia, all focusing on a central theme: promoting human rights progress through high-quality development.
The forum highlighted the intrinsic link between economic growth and the advancement of human rights. Li Hongkui, Vice President of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, delivered a key address emphasizing that cooperation is the primary vehicle for progress. He noted that China and Central Asian nations should remain committed to the principle of promoting development through cooperation, which in turn secures the foundation for human rights.
A critical component of this strategy involves the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with the national development strategies of Central Asian countries. By fostering high-quality cooperation in infrastructure, trade, and social development, the participants argued that a solid foundation is laid for sustainable human rights improvements across the region.
Representing the host nation, Akmal Saidov, director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, described the dialogue on human rights as a vital theme for mutual learning. He pointed out that strengthening regional cooperation provides practical, scalable solutions to the various human rights challenges facing the modern era.
The diplomatic momentum was further echoed by Yu Jun, the Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan, who highlighted the dynamic growth of the China-Central Asia cooperation mechanism. Ambassador Yu expressed China's readiness to collaborate with all regional partners to build a closer China-Central Asia community with a shared future, contributing to a broader global progress in human rights.
Initiated in 2023 by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, the forum continues to serve as a pivotal platform for diplomatic exchange and strategic alignment in one of the world's most dynamic regions.
