In a significant leap for the private aerospace sector on the Chinese mainland, LandSpace successfully launched its upgraded ZQ-2E Y5 carrier rocket on Thursday. The mission, taking place at the Dongfeng commercial space innovation pilot zone in the country's northwestern region, marks a new milestone in the quest for more efficient and intelligent space transport.

Lifting off at 11 a.m., the ZQ-2E Y5 delivered a 2.8-tonne customized test payload into a 900-kilometer orbit. This launch is more than just a successful deployment; it represents a sophisticated evolution of the Zhuque-2, the world's first liquid oxygen-methane rocket to reach orbit.

The upgraded Y5 model introduces critical technical enhancements designed to maximize power and reliability. By incorporating a lengthened first-stage tank and utilizing sub-cooled filling technology, LandSpace has achieved a 15% increase in propellant loading. These improvements enable the rocket to lift 6 tonnes to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and 4 tonnes to a 500-km Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO), positioning it as a primary vehicle for the deployment of future satellite constellations.

Beyond raw power, a major highlight of this mission was the validation of autonomous "smart" flight systems. The rocket's first-stage engines are now equipped with in-flight fault diagnosis and thrust self-correction capabilities, significantly enhancing the safety and precision of the mission.
