China and Brunei Forge New Path of Cooperation During High-Level Beijing Meeting

Strengthening Strategic Bonds in Beijing

In a significant diplomatic encounter this Tuesday in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah. The meeting focused on a shared vision of strengthening strategic communication and deepening practical cooperation between the two nations.

A Legacy of Win-Win Partnership

President Xi emphasized that China and Brunei are close and friendly neighbors, inextricably linked by the Maritime Silk Road. He noted that the ongoing cooperation has not only provided tangible benefits to both populations but serves as a global model for equal treatment and win-win collaboration between nations of varying sizes.

A pivotal point of the discussion was the consensus reached last year with the Sultan of Brunei, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, to build a China-Brunei community with a shared future. This commitment has effectively opened a new chapter in the bilateral relationship, prioritizing mutual growth and stability.

Looking Toward 2030 and Beyond

The meeting arrives at a momentous time, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of bilateral ties. Against the backdrop of a turbulent and changing international landscape, President Xi called for the "shared future" guideline to be used to inject positive energy into regional peace and stability.

Furthermore, 2026 marks a critical juncture for both nations. With China entering its 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) and Brunei advancing toward its Wawasan 2035 (Brunei Vision 2035), President Xi urged both sides to align these strategic frameworks to propel China-Brunei cooperation to unprecedented heights.
