An autonomous freight truck rolls out of a logistics park in Beijing's southeastern suburbs, crossing into Hebei's Langfang City and heading toward the Tianjin Port. This journey is more than just a delivery; it is a symbol of the growing industrial synergy within one of the most economically vital regions of the Chinese mainland.
The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration drive is gaining significant momentum, as local governments pool their strengths in cutting-edge sectors. From electric vehicles (EVs) and robotics to advanced healthcare and transport networks, the region is evolving into a powerhouse of coordinated growth.
Driving the Future of Mobility
A primary success story of this integration is the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector. By blending Hebei's battery production and Tianjin's components with Beijing's intelligent driving systems, the region has created a seamless supply chain. In 2025, the region produced 1.084 million NEVs, maintaining an average annual growth rate of over 60% throughout the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
To further this progress, authorities are implementing the "six chains and five clusters" initiative. This strategy targets key sectors like hydrogen energy, cybersecurity, and biomedicine. Central to this is an 8,000-mu intelligent connected NEV technology hub, with Beijing's Shunyi district serving as a critical link for major automakers such as Beijing Benz, Li Auto, and Beijing Hyundai.
A Strategy for Modernization
This coordinated development is part of a long-term national strategy championed by President Xi Jinping. During an inspection tour in Hebei in 2023, President Xi emphasized that the region should serve as a pioneer for Chinese modernization, focusing on improving the people's wellbeing, security, and sense of fulfillment.
Integration in Daily Life
Beyond the industrial parks, the integration is transforming daily life. A sophisticated transportation circle—featuring the Beijing-Tangshan intercity railway and the newly launched Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei rail loop line—has reduced travel times to between 1 and 1.5 hours, making commuting more efficient for millions.
Healthcare is also seeing a revolution in accessibility. Since April 2023, a social security "one-card pass" system has linked over 64,000 medical institutions across the three areas. With more than 115 regional medical alliances established, residents can now access specialist care closer to home, ensuring a more consistent standard of medical service.
Yang Xiuling, director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, noted that the three regions are leveraging their comparative advantages to cultivate "new quality productive forces." By supporting one another, Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei are setting a high standard for high-quality regional growth.
