Brunei’s Crown Prince Billah Arrives in China to Mark 35 Years of Diplomatic Ties

BEIJING — Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, arrived in Beijing on Monday for a five-day official visit to the Chinese mainland.

The visit, conducted at the invitation of Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, coincides with a significant milestone: the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Since first forging ties in 1991, Brunei and China have evolved into friendly neighbors and strategic partners, characterized by deep political trust and extensive collaboration across multiple sectors.

Economic synergy remains a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship. China currently stands as one of Brunei's largest trading partners, with large-scale initiatives such as the Hengyi petrochemical complex serving as tangible symbols of their mutually beneficial cooperation. These ventures underscore a shared commitment to advancing energy and infrastructure development.

The diplomatic momentum was further solidified in 2023, when both countries agreed to build a China-Brunei community with a shared future. This strategic vision marks a new chapter in their relations, paving the way for enhanced people-to-people exchanges and strengthened cooperation as both nations seek to navigate the evolving global landscape together.
