Strengthening Ties in the Horn of Africa

In a significant gesture of diplomatic solidarity, Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy, Losang Jamcan, attended the inauguration ceremony of Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh this past Saturday.

Losang Jamcan, who serves as the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, conveyed President Xi's warm congratulations to President Guelleh. During the event, Jamcan highlighted that under the strategic leadership of both heads of state, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Djibouti has seen steady and deepening growth in recent years.

The envoy emphasized China's readiness to collaborate closely with Djibouti to implement key consensuses reached by the two leaders. The focus remains on carrying forward their traditional friendship, expanding practical cooperation, and propelling bilateral relations toward greater development.

President Guelleh, who was re-elected on April 11 and sworn in for his sixth term, expressed his gratitude to President Xi for sending a special envoy to mark the occasion. Guelleh described China as a "trustworthy partner" and affirmed Djibouti's commitment to strengthening solidarity, enhancing friendly exchanges across various sectors, and maintaining close coordination in international affairs.

This high-level exchange underscores the evolving dynamics of diplomatic engagement in the region, signaling a shared intent to push the Djibouti-China relationship to a new level of strategic cooperation.
