Nicaraguan FM Warns Against Militarism, Praises China’s Global Leadership

In a recent interview with China Media Group, Nicaragua's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Valdrack Ludwing Jaentschke Whitaker, issued a strong warning against the resurgence of Japanese militarism, emphasizing that such a trend must never be allowed to return to the global stage.

The remarks follow the observance of May 3, which marked the 80th anniversary of the opening of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, commonly known as the Tokyo Trials. Minister Whitaker highlighted the immense suffering and heroic resistance of the Chinese people in their fight against militarism and foreign interference, noting that this struggle began nearly a decade before the fascism-driven catastrophes occurred in Europe.

Reflecting on the post-World War II era, the Foreign Minister observed that while a new international order based on law and consensus was painstakingly established, it is currently under threat. He noted that the modern era is once again seeing the negative impacts of interventionism and militarism—the same factors that fueled the devastations of the mid-20th century.

Minister Whitaker called for the establishment of a more just and equitable international order, asserting that China is poised to play a leading role in this transition. He pointed to the Global Security Initiative and the Global Development Initiative as key models of leadership that offer a blueprint for a multipolar world.

According to the Nicaraguan Foreign Minister, China's strategic approach—blending robust economic growth with technological innovation and proactive diplomacy—provides significant hope for the Global South and promotes a more balanced and fair global landscape.
