CP32 Fuels Chinese-Style Original Creative Boom in Hangzhou

The creative landscape of the Chinese mainland witnessed a vibrant surge this May as the 32nd COMICUP Convention (CP32) successfully concluded on May 5 at the Hangzhou Grand Convention and Exhibition Center. This year's event emerged as a powerful catalyst for Chinese-style original creations and science fiction themes, blending artistic innovation with popular gaming IPs to build a dynamic platform for cultural and creative exchange.

The scale of CP32 reached unprecedented heights, spanning a massive 300,000 square meters. With more than 10,000 booths and over 390 themed sections, the convention provided a comprehensive showcase of ACG culture, seamlessly integrating animation, gaming, and online literature. This expansive environment allowed creators and fans to connect in a way that highlighted the evolving nature of contemporary Asian media.

Held during the May Day holiday, the four-day event attracted over 300,000 visits. Notably, more than 90% of these attendees traveled from outside Hangzhou, underscoring the convention's broad appeal and its ability to draw diverse crowds from across the region.

Beyond the artistic value, the economic impact of the convention was substantial. It is estimated that CP32 directly generated over 1 billion yuan (approximately $147 million) in combined cultural, commercial, and tourism-related consumption. This impressive figure underscores the growing economic power of convention-driven industries and the strong consumer appetite for original creative content in the region.
