China Urges U.S. to End Blockade and Sanctions on Cuba

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called upon the United States to immediately terminate its blockade and sanctions, as well as all forms of coercion and pressure directed toward Cuba.

This diplomatic push follows a recent executive order signed by the U.S. president on May 1, which expanded sanctions against Cuba. The U.S. administration justified the move by claiming that Cuba continues to pose a threat to U.S. national security and foreign policy.

The Cuban government has reacted strongly to these measures. On the same day the order was signed, the Cuban foreign minister described the unilateral coercive measures as "reprehensible and ridiculous," asserting that such actions "will not intimidate us."

Responding to the situation, the Chinese Foreign Ministry highlighted that the intensification of these illicit and unilateral sanctions gravely infringes upon the Cuban people's fundamental rights to subsistence and development. Furthermore, China emphasized that such actions violate basic norms in international relations.

In an official statement, China reaffirmed its firm support for Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security, while explicitly opposing any interference in Cuba's internal affairs.
