Virtual Journey to Tang Dynasty Showcases Silk Road’s Cultural Legacy

In 2026, the Tang Dynasty’s legacy of cross-cultural exchange is being revived through cutting-edge technology. Treasured Tang, a new immersive virtual exhibition, transports viewers to Chang’an—the 8th-century capital that once buzzed with traders, scholars, and artisans from across Asia and beyond. Through meticulously reconstructed scenes of adornment, trade, and celebration, the project highlights how gold, silver, and silk became canvases for a shared aesthetic language shaped by the Silk Road.

Produced as part of CGTN’s China Crafted Art Series, the exhibition underscores how Tang artisans blended influences from Persia, India, and Central Asia into their work. Interactive displays reveal the origins of motifs on ceremonial vessels and jewelry, while 3D models of artifacts like gilded cups and lacquerware illustrate the dynasty’s technical mastery. For academics and cultural enthusiasts alike, the project bridges ancient craftsmanship with modern digital storytelling.

This year’s edition of China Crafted also explores artifacts from the Shang, Han, and Song dynasties, offering a panoramic view of China’s artistic evolution. However, Treasured Tang stands out for its focus on globalization’s early roots—a theme resonating deeply with today’s interconnected world.
