Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Vietnamese leader To Lam pledged to deepen cross-border infrastructure connectivity and economic collaboration during high-level talks in Beijing this week, signaling strengthened bilateral coordination amid global uncertainties.
At their April 15 meeting, Premier Li emphasized China's readiness to accelerate standard-gauge railway links, smart port development, and expressway networks between the neighbors. The leaders agreed to prioritize secure supply chains while expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, new energy projects, and critical mineral resources.
"As traditional friendly neighbors facing complex global changes, our countries must enhance strategic alignment," Li stated, underscoring commitments to maintain maritime security and oppose unilateralism in international forums.
Vietnamese President Lam affirmed relations with China as Hanoi's diplomatic priority, expressing particular interest in advancing railway cooperation and sustainable economic integration. Both leaders committed to resolving bilateral issues while coordinating positions through multilateral platforms including the United Nations and APEC.
The discussions come as ASEAN nations increasingly seek infrastructure partnerships to counterbalance economic headwinds. Analysts note the emphasis on digital and green energy sectors aligns with Vietnam's 2026 development priorities while supporting China's regional connectivity initiatives.
