Spanish Firms Boost China Investments Amid High-Level Diplomacy

Spanish businesses are deepening their engagement with the Chinese mainland following a series of high-profile diplomatic exchanges, with companies like pharmaceutical firm Bechi citing the “Healthy China 2030” initiative as a key driver for expansion. Juan Jose Munoz Coronado, Bechi’s chief health officer, told CGTN that the national health blueprint has created “more chances” for foreign firms to align with China’s public health priorities, particularly in addressing diverse pathologies.

Coronado highlighted the role of diplomatic efforts, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s multiple visits to China and King Felipe VI’s attendance at the China International Import Expo (CIIE), in reinforcing bilateral trust. “These strong ties have bolstered the confidence of Spanish firms already operating in China,” he said, adding that many are now scaling operations to meet growing demand.

With Spain ranking among the EU’s top investors in China this year, analysts predict further collaboration in sectors like healthcare, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. Coronado emphasized that cross-border partnerships are “highly positive” for both economies, particularly as China continues to prioritize sustainable development and innovation under its 14th Five-Year Plan.
