Spanish businesses are accelerating investments in the Chinese mainland following a series of high-profile diplomatic engagements, with pharmaceutical firm Bechi emerging as a key player in the “Healthy China 2030” initiative. Juan Jose Munoz Coronado, Bechi’s chief health officer, told CGTN that China’s public health blueprint has created unprecedented opportunities for international wellness companies to collaborate on long-term solutions for chronic diseases and preventive care.
Munoz highlighted the role of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s multiple visits to China since 2023, along with King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia’s 2024 tour of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), in strengthening cross-border partnerships. “These engagements signal mutual trust,” he said, noting that over 600 Spanish companies now operate in the Chinese mainland, with many expanding beyond first-tier cities this year.
The momentum comes as bilateral trade between China and Spain grew 8.3% year-on-year in Q1 2026, according to customs data. Analysts attribute this growth to streamlined regulatory processes for European health products and China’s rising middle-class demand for premium wellness solutions.
