Chinese gymnasts showcased their rising talent at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, securing three silver medals and one bronze. The event, held on Sunday, highlighted the potential of young athletes as they adapt to revised competition rules ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Veteran Huang Mingqi led the team alongside newcomers Meng Zhiwei, 23, and 15-year-old Chu Yiming. Meng claimed silver in the men’s rings final with a score of 13.800, narrowly missing gold to Azerbaijan’s Nikita Simonov. Huang, competing in the men’s vault, topped qualifiers with 14.300 points but settled for silver after a tense battle with Ukraine’s Nazar Chepurnyi.
Chu Yiming emerged as a standout, earning silver in the women’s balance beam (13.266) and bronze in the floor exercise (12.766). Her performances drew applause for their technical precision, signaling promise for future competitions. Japan dominated these events, with Haruka Nakamura and Rina Kishi clinching golds.
The competition served as a crucial testing ground for China’s younger gymnasts, reinforcing their trajectory toward Olympic readiness.
