Rescue Efforts Intensify as Heavy Rains Flood Parts of China

Chongqing, China — Torrential rains have unleashed severe flooding across parts of China, prompting local governments to accelerate rescue efforts to aid thousands of residents trapped by rising waters.

Regions heavily impacted include southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan Province, and central China’s Anhui Province. Authorities in these areas are stepping up operations to ensure the safety of those affected by the deluge.

On Monday morning, the National Meteorological Center maintained a yellow alert for rainstorms—the third level in a four-tier warning system—as heavy rains continue to lash many parts of the country.

According to the Chongqing Hydrological Monitoring Center, between 8 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, 13 districts and counties experienced heavy rainstorms. The intense rainfall caused water levels in six rivers to rise above warning thresholds.

In Rongchang District, the Daqingliu River, which straddles the border between Sichuan and Chongqing, surged 0.29 meters above its warning level by 4 p.m. Sunday. The sudden rise inundated houses and farmlands, forcing local authorities to act swiftly.

“Emergency teams were dispatched immediately to evacuate residents,” a local official reported. By 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, over 3,600 people had been safely relocated from the district.

The relentless downpour has not only disrupted daily life but also raised concerns about agricultural damage and infrastructure stability. Rescue teams are working around the clock to monitor river levels and reinforce flood defenses.

As the weather continues to pose challenges, officials urge residents in affected areas to stay alert and follow safety instructions. With more rain expected in the coming days, the emphasis remains on safeguarding lives and minimizing damage.
