China’s Wang Yi Advocates Open Doors for BRICS Expansion at “BRICS Plus” Dialogue

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for the BRICS nations to pursue development with open doors, welcoming more like-minded partners to join the BRICS family and strengthen global cooperation.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made these remarks on Tuesday during the “BRICS Plus” dialogue held at the foreign ministers’ level in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

Emphasizing the significance of the “BRICS Plus” initiative, Wang highlighted how the dialogue serves as an important platform for BRICS countries alongside other emerging markets and developing countries. “It has long added vitality and injected impetus into BRICS’ development,” he noted.

He pointed out that the collective rise of emerging markets and developing countries has significantly advanced the process toward a multipolar world. “A large number of countries have embarked on the fast track of development, and the Global South has become a new awakening force,” Wang said.

Wang Yi put forward three proposals for developing countries to open up new opportunities amidst global changes and crises, though the specifics of these proposals were not detailed.
