Chinese and French Youth Engage in Dialogue on Modernization in Paris

Nearly 100 prominent figures from Chinese and French political, cultural, artistic, media, and academic circles gathered in Paris on May 5 for a youth dialogue on Chinese modernization. The event aimed to foster mutual understanding and strengthen the deep friendship between the two nations.

The dialogue was hosted by China Media Group (CMG), the Sciences Po Alumni, the Paris Intercollegiate Committee of the United Nations (CINUP), and Jinan University. Esteemed guests, including Shen Haixiong, president of CMG; Jack Lang, former French culture minister; Sylvie Bermann, former French ambassador to China; Hervé Machenaud, representative of the Sciences Po Alumni; and Charles Jeanne, president of CINUP, attended and delivered speeches.

In his address, Shen Haixiong highlighted the participation of young French cultural envoys in research activities related to Chinese modernization. He emphasized CMG’s commitment to building a platform for dialogue, enabling more young people to experience the unique charm of China in the new era and the vitality of the Chinese nation in building a modern civilization.

Shen expressed hope that youth from China and France would continue to enrich the deep friendship between the two countries and contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Jack Lang praised the experiences of the young French cultural envoys invited by CMG, noting their exposure to the integration of China’s traditional cultural protection and modern scientific and technological development. He expressed hope that more young people from both countries would use dialogue as a medium to deepen friendship and promote exchanges among different civilizations.

Sylvie Bermann emphasized the irreplaceable role of youth exchanges in promoting the in-depth and lasting development of France-China relations and enhancing mutual trust between the two peoples. She believed that the dialogue would help French youth gain a better understanding of today’s China and the global significance of Chinese modernization.

During the event, CMG Europe, the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, and Jinan University jointly released a report on Chinese modernization, following research conducted by young Chinese and French scholars and cultural envoys.

Additionally, CMG and the Sciences Po Alumni signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in areas such as expert resource exchange, media collaboration, joint research, and publication of academic results.

At a roundtable dialogue session, young scholars and cultural envoys from both countries discussed Chinese modernization from a youth perspective. They agreed that the dialogue deepened mutual understanding and recognition, noting that Chinese modernization has not only benefited China but also provided more opportunities for the world.

The event marked a significant step in fostering cultural exchange and understanding between Chinese and French youth, strengthening bilateral ties and contributing to global cooperation.
