In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, China’s top legislator Zhao Leji met with Nauruan President David Adeang on Tuesday in Beijing. The meeting underscores a mutual commitment to enhance cooperation across various sectors between the two nations.
Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, expressed China’s readiness to work with Nauru to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state. “China stands ready to consolidate political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, and enhance people-to-people exchanges to better benefit our peoples,” Zhao stated.
Highlighting China’s ongoing efforts in modernization, Zhao noted, “China is advancing the building of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. This will bring new development opportunities to countries around the world, including Nauru. We welcome Nauru aboard the express train of China’s development.”
Zhao emphasized the importance of legislative collaboration, indicating the NPC’s willingness to enhance communication with Nauru’s parliament. “We aim to formulate or improve legal documents conducive to bilateral cooperation, and share experience in reform, development, and the construction of the rule of law,” he added.
Nauruan President David Adeang affirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening ties with China. “The resumption of diplomatic relations with China is a firm political decision of the Nauruan government and parliament,” Adeang stated. “We are willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields, intensify exchanges between legislative bodies, and continuously deepen the friendship between our peoples.”
The meeting marks a pivotal step in China-Nauru relations, opening doors for enhanced collaboration in political, economic, and cultural spheres. Both leaders expressed optimism about the future of bilateral ties, signaling a new chapter of mutual growth and development.
