Iran FM Talks SCO Summit, Israel Ceasefire & Nuclear Talks in Exclusive Interview

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi shared insights on regional diplomacy, security challenges, and multilateral cooperation during an exclusive interview with CGTN following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers' meeting in Tianjin. The discussion centered on Iran's strategic priorities ahead of the SCO Summit and ongoing geopolitical tensions.

SCO: A Platform for Global South Solidarity

Araghchi emphasized Iran's commitment to the SCO, praising its role in amplifying the voices of Global South nations. "We have a real intention to address security, economic, and cultural issues differently than Western countries," he stated, highlighting the bloc's growing influence in shaping alternative multilateral frameworks.

Fragile Ceasefire and Regional Security

The minister described last month's ceasefire with Israel as "fragile," acknowledging ongoing regional volatility. He welcomed SCO members' condemnation of recent attacks on Iran, expressing hope for stronger political backing during the upcoming summit in Tajikistan.

Nuclear Negotiations: Cautious Optimism

While reaffirming Iran's right to peaceful nuclear energy, Araghchi signaled openness to reviving talks with the U.S. pending "concrete actions demonstrating sincerity." The remarks come as international observers watch for potential shifts in the stalled Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) negotiations.
